Not a hotel

A real house, kept in order for you: sheets scented and fresh from the wash, the way they smelled at your grandmother's, a coffee machine that knows what it is doing and no reception desk to queue at.

One apartment only

You share nothing with anyone: the door, the kitchen, the bathroom. For your whole stay the house is yours.

Check-in without a clock

We wait for you when you arrive. If the train runs late, our day runs late too.

The city, not the postcard

The baker, the fishmonger, the right alley at sunset. We mark them on a paper map for you.

Bari on foot

Everything that matters,
without taking the car

The house is in the Murat quarter: the nineteenth-century grid between the station and the old town, laid out with a ruler. You cannot get lost here and you never go round in circles — you always walk in a straight line.

Natilla Via Sparano Piccinni Petruzzelli University Station Castle Bari Vecchia Margherita Seafront

Approximate distances, measured at a slow pace.

  1. 4min

    Via Sparano

The spine of the quarter: fully pedestrian, and it starts below the house.

  2. 5min

    Aldo Moro University

The main university building on Piazza Umberto, genuinely round the corner.

  3. 7min

    Teatro Petruzzelli

If there is an opera on, you leave the house at half past eight.

  4. 8min

    Central Station

Frecciarossa trains and the airport shuttle, on foot.

  6. 10min

    Lungomare Nazario Sauro

The finest stretch at sunset, with the north-easterly wind.

  7. 12min

    Swabian Castle

The moat, Frederick II's walls, the edge of the old town.

  8. 12min

    Teatro Margherita

Built on stilts over the water; today you go for the exhibitions.

  9. 12min

    Bari Vecchia & San Nicola

The street orecchiette of Arco Basso, the basilica, the pier.

Where to eat, right here

The neighbourhood
is edible

From nine, while it lasts

Focaccia barese

Crushed cherry tomatoes, olives, the edge oily in just the right way. The bakery opens early and by noon it is gone: that is the reason people in Bari get up.

In the evening, standing up

Panzerotti

Deep-fried, mozzarella and tomato inside. You eat them walking and you burn your mouth every single time, without exception.

At dinner, unhurried

Spaghetti all'assassina

Cooked in the pan until they burn: a crust, chilli, tomato. The most Bari dish there is, and it is made nowhere else.

Morning, at the pier

Raw seafood

Sea urchins, oysters, and octopus just beaten against the rock. Down at the harbour they open it in front of you and you eat standing, watching the boats.

Takeaway, at lunch

Meatballs in sauce

Wrapped in paper, with bread to mop the plate. Carry them upstairs and eat at the living room table with the window open.

One till four in the morning

Cornetti in the small hours

In Bari you go out at two in the morning for a warm croissant straight from the oven. It is not a snack, it is a rite: sooner or later we will take you there ourselves.

We deliberately name no places on this page: in Bari the right spot moves, and this year's best is not last year's. When you arrive we hand you the paper map with ours, updated by hand.
